OK, I can’t keep quiet anymore. So, one disclaimer: My intent for for this site is to share my experiences as a health care professional that also happens to be a transplant recipient. I want to talk and share with you who are living on the time line of the transplant experience. Having said that, I still have the professional in me who has spent years helping families with the decision as to whether or not to donate organs/tissues. It’s from that perspective that this is being written.
I have been sitting on these thoughts since just prior to Christmas. You may remember the situation of a young man in a western state who had been in a car accident. He had been unresponsive for several weeks until, rather suddenly, getting better – better enough to be out of the hospital and be with his family for Christmas. For most, this was a heart warming Christmas story, but for others, it was something else. Written on a very widely distributed Organ Donation blog were these words commenting on this story:
